A  MODEL  TO  BE  IMITATED There is a great chasm which can exist between the pulpit and the workplace.  Our newsletter is just one medium we use to prompt Christians to take a look at their own behavior versus our best role model, Jesus Christ.  Last month, I witnessed a tremendous contrast between two distinct behaviors on the job. CASE 1:   Steven Slater, a Jet Blue airline attendant flipped out over a fight with an agitated traveler. He cursed over the intercom before grabbing some beer from the plane's galley and making a grand exit down the emergency slide at Kennedy Airport in New York City.   His message was a familiar one in the culture in which we live:  TAKE THIS JOB AND SHOVE IT! CASE 2   In a small manufacturing business where ten individuals are employed, the manager asked for volunteers who would be willing to stay beyond normal quitting time and help in getting an extra shipment moved.  Pat was the only one to step forward and offer her help.  The next day, the other employees ridiculed her.  "You're trying to make all of us look bad!  What's wrong with you?" ***  MY  ANALYSIS  AND  LESSON  FOR  THE  MONTH   *** What is more disturbing than the erratic behavior of Steven Slater is that he has become a hero to thousands of workers.  Within a few hours after the incident, 20,000 people had declared themselves supporters of Slater on Facebook.  It absolutely amazes me how heroes are being defined in this great country.  It is true that the dedicated employees of airlines (and other businesses) often have to deal with unruly customers.  However, two wrongs do not make a right.  I am afraid that Mr. Slater has placed himself beneath the level of his passenger's behavior.  In addition, he may face a prison term because of opening the emergency exit door from which he escaped. Steven Slater is NO hero.   The real heroes of the workplace are those who face many and different kinds of difficult situations with the fruits of the holy spirit as defined by the Apostle Paul in Galatians 5:22-23.   That is exactly what occurred in Case Two.  Employee Pat displayed her love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and yes, SELF CONTROL.  And, she did this even as she was criticized by her co-workers!  I am constantly inspired through meeting thousands of workers like Pat who have no problem "taking the heat" because they understand how to persevere as they work as unto the Lord!  All of us must be careful how we select our heroes AND be careful of our own behavior.   The Apostle Paul provides valuable guidance on this subject. He says, "Be imitators of me!"  BUT, he qualifies this tremendous invitation:  "…....as I am of Christ".    Bottom Line:   May I video tape YOUR behavior in the workplace for one week and use it a teaching example when I am speaking to thousands who follow this ministry?   May I recommend that we copy YOUR behavior in the name of Christ?   That's my message for this month.  Now, for a couple of closing footnotes: Let us continue to pray for those who are still grieving because of the tragedy which occurred in Connecticut in August when a former employee walked into a business and killed eight former co-workers and injured two before killing himself. And, let us continue to pray for those wonderful military workers who have volunteered to put their life on the line and WORK for the sake of our freedom!   They are the best of the best and we LOVE them!  I look forward to being with you next month.  In the meantime, I must be about my Father's business. Messages include an interview which took place when Jim was a guest on the Living Christian Radio Network which originates  from Seattle Washington.  The interview is significant in that some very critical questions were asked concerning difficulties in living the Christian life in today's workplace.   The broadcast also enabled us to carry our message on  how to live the Christian life in the workplace to workers in Canada and in the western half of our country.   We hope these messages will provide further help as you work on living the CHRISTIAN life in the workplace.         BEWARE  OF  A  "BREAK-IN" AT YOUR  WORK  OR  HOME! When we use the term "break in", you may think we are referring to a thief who has broken the lock on your door and entered your home or business illegally.  That is exactly what we mean except, in this case, we are referring to breaking into your computer. Earlier this year, our Technical Director, Rick Martin, was alerted that some person or organization had attempted to enter our Worker Ministries website to possibly cause harm to the site.  The party which attempted the break-in did not succeed because our ministry employs a number of SECURITY vehicles which we use to intercept the devil.   We share this incident with our readers for several reasons: 1. First, YOU may need to examine YOUR computer including YOUR web site if you operate one.  Have you protected it against malpractices including devilish actions which might be taken by another party to destroy contents on your software ? ?   If not, you need to refer this to a reputable computer expert for steps to be taken to protect that which you own. 2. Secondly, we share this incident with you to emphasize the seriousness of such a matter.  Be advised that anyone who breaks into any computer for any reason has committed a STATE AND FEDERAL CRIME and can be prosecuted to the fullest possible extent. Such illegal action is a serious and illegal behavior associated with cyberstalking.    Definition:  The use of information and communications technology, particularly the internet, by an individual or group of individuals, to harass another individual, group of individuals, or organization.  The behavior includes false accusations, monitoring, the transmission of threats, identity theft, damage to data or equipment, the solicitation of minors for sexual purposes, and gathering information for harassment purposes. The harassment must be such that a reasonable person in possession of the same information, would regard it as sufficient to cause another reasonable person distress. We share all of this with you to say this:  IF you should experience such problems, you have the right to contact law enforcement officials who have the technical expertise to locate the individual or organization which is guilty of such behavior. (They can not hide under a general identification name.) If the attempted break-in to our web site had succeeded, we would not have hesitated to take the case directly to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.   That is how serious we and our readers who operate computers should handle such an unfortunate devilish situation.     BAD  NEWS!   WORKER  DISSATISFACTION   CONTINUES  TO INCREASE!   This year, the Conference Board's survey of worker sentiment toward their job revealed that workers of all ages and income brackets continue to grow increasingly unhappy. The board's survey found that only 45 percent of those interviewed say they are satisfied with their jobs, down from 61.1 percent in 1987, the first year in which the survey was conducted. And what does this mean for the American economy? Simple.  How can we have a solid economy when most workers are so dissatisfied they will NOT do their best and, thus, they will subtract from productivity? We believe there are three major causes for this dissatisfaction: 1. Too many workers are interested in only finding a job and when they get there they find they don't like it!   WAKE UP AMERICA!   Those who find satisfaction in the workplace have found their calling FIRST!  The job is only an engine which drives the calling! 2. Too many workers were never raised by parents who subscribe to a CHRISTian work ethic.  Therefore, their offspring have become what God refers to as the "lazy sluggards"!   Just examine so-called "customer service" failures in this country and you will find evidence of those who are so lazy, they just don't care! 3. And, managers we would never forget you!  Millions of managers have never examined the climatic conditions in the workplace to determine why workers are disgruntled.  A major reason for this failure is that too managers have never received managerial training including development in interpersonal relations!   Many of these so-called managers know just enough to be dangerous!  Management is a skill which has to be learned!   At Worker Ministries, would we hire one who has no management credentials (training or experience) ?  The answer is NO!  After all, would you want a doctor to perform surgery for you who has never attended medical school ? ? ?       OPERATION   UPLIFT  EXPANDS INTO  MAJOR  LOCATIONS     "If we can not reach them through the church, we will go to them on the streets!"   That profound statement was made by Jim Hogsett when he decided to start OPERATION UPLIFT which is concerned with ministering to those who have never found their purpose for living.  These are real human beings who have become wanderers in the wilderness!   What did Jim Hogsett say?  We will go to them on the streets?  Yes, the answer is wherever they may be existing and for many, they are merely existing!    This is more than a Worker Ministries program.  It is a specific strategy which enables our ministry to literally go underground to reach out to these important souls created by God Almighty.   To reach thousands, we will go where thousands live which are major world cities.                      2010                                        2011            New York City                           New York City                Memphis                                    Memphis          Washington, D.
